This is the Call for Entries information for the 2000 Georgie Awards. Projects and products that were built, renovated, developed, created and/or marketed between July 1, 1999 and June 30, 2000 are eligible to enter.

RESIDENTIAL PLANNING, DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION - SINGLE FAMILY (NEW)

1. Best Single Family Detached Home Under 1,800 Sq. Ft.
The total area of the home must be less than 1,800 sq. ft.

2. Best Single Family Detached Home 1,800 - 2,999 Sq. Ft.
The total area of the home must be between 1,800 and 2,999 sq. ft.

3. Best Single Family Detached Home 3,000 - 4,199 Sq. Ft.
The total area of the home must be between 3,000 and 4,199 sq. ft.

4. Best Single Family Detached Home 4,200 Sq. Ft. and Over
The total area of the home must be 4,2000 sq. ft. or over

Criteria (Categories 1 - 4 inclusive).
In addition to the relative affordability of the development, the following will also be judged:
Exterior: innovative and functional design solutions to project program, architectural character, common areas and/or amenities. Environmental considerations including energy efficiency such as R-2000. Integration of project into its natural setting, economic, and site restraints.
Interior: exciting new features or innovations, careful or innovative detailing, unique design solutions, creative use of space, and functionality of floor plan.

Requirements (Categories 1 - 4 inclusive)
  • Entry Form.
  • Marketing Statement/Project Description - Should describe the project and explain how it meets the criteria for its category (in no more than 150 words).
  • Six (6) 35mm colour slides of the following in triplicate:
    - 2 slides showing exterior (1 each of front and rear);
    - 1 slide showing living room;
    - 1 slide showing kitchen/dining/family;
    - 1 slide showing master bedroom;
    - 1 slide of your choice (i.e.: master bath, media center, recreation room).
  • One (1) 8"x10" glossy colour photo print of front elevation.
  • Twelve (12) collated sets of the floor plan and site plan on 8 1/2"x11" paper.
  • The cost of construction per square foot must be identified.
*Up to 2 companies will be recognized. Unless otherwise requested on the entry form, these awards will be presented to the Builder and Architect/Designer.

RESIDENTIAL PLANNING, DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION - MULTI-FAMILY (NEW)

5. Best Townhouse Development Under 1,500 Sq. Ft.
A townhouse development is defined as a ground oriented project in which each unit has a separate entrance. Average size of units must be less than 1,500 sq. ft.

68. Best Townhouse Development 1,500 Sq. Ft. and Over
A townhouse development is defined as a ground oriented project in which each unit has a separate entrance. Average size of units must be 1,500 sq. ft. and over.

7. Best Low-Rise Development
A low-rise development is defined as a multi-family project, four stories or less, with a common entry servicing all units.

8. Best High-Rise Development
A high-rise development is defined as a multi-family project, greater than four stories, with a common entry servicing all units.

9. Best Mixed Use Development
Mixed use development is defined as a project which has within it a combination of residential and commercial use.

Criteria (Categories 5 - 9 inclusive).
In addition to the relative affordability of the development, the following will also be judged:

Environmental considerations including energy efficiency such as R-2000. Integration of project into its natural setting, innovative response to government, economic and site restraints, and target market acceptance (number of confirmed sales).
Interior: exciting new features or innovations, careful or innovative detailing, unique design solutions, creative use of space, functionality of floor plan, and integration of commercial aspects into overall functionality and aesthetics of project. Renovations or conversions of existing buildings are eligible. Rental projects are also eligible based on square footage.

Requirements (Categories 5 - 9 inclusive)
  • Entry Form.
  • Marketing Statement/Project Description - Should describe the project and explain how it meets the criteria for its category (in no more than 150 words).
  • Building Envelop Disclosure - Should describe steps taken to address the issue of water penetration in condominiums and to provide appropriate consumer recourse (in no more than 150 words).
    Categories 5, 6, 7 and 9
  • Six (6) 35mm colour slides of the following in triplicate:
    - 2 slides showing context in urban setting, architectural character, building/project entry etc.;
    - 2 slides showing principal living areas;
    - 2 slides of your choice.
    Category 8
  • Eight (8) 35mm colour slides of the following in triplicate:
    - 2 slides showing context in urban setting, architectural character, building/project entry etc.;
    - 3 slides showing principal living areas of one unit;
    - 3 slides showing common areas.
  • One (1) 8"x10" glossy colour photo print of front elevation.
  • Twelve (12) collated sets of the floor plan and site plan on 8. 1/2"x11" paper.
  • Four (4) copies of the brochure and price list with the entry home highlighted.
  • The cost of construction per square foot must be identified.
  • Statement of average sales price.
  • Rental units must include a statement of average rent.
*Up to 2 companies will be recognized. Unless otherwise requested on the entry form, these awards will be presented to the Builder and Architect/Designer.

RESIDENTIAL PLANNING, DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION - RENOVATION

10. Best Residential Renovation Under $75,000
Even a small renovation is eligible for this category, as quality rather than cost will determine the winners. The total cost of the renovation , including materials and labour, must be less than $75,000.

11. Best Residential Renovation $75,000 - $200,000
The total cost of the renovation, including materials and labour, must be between $75,000 - $200,000.

12. Best Residential Renovation Over $200,000
The total cost of the renovation, including materials and labour, must be over $200,000.

Criteria (Categories 10 - 12 inclusive).
Entry will be judged on compatibility and harmony with adjacent environment, sensitivity to the historical nature of the building, use of appropriate building materials, quality of workmanship, special or unique design, energy upgrades, creative and efficient use of space, and aesthetic considerations.

Requirements (Categories 10 - 12 inclusive)

  • Entry Form.
  • Marketing Statement/Project Description - Should describe the renovation and explain the client's needs, the use of materials, design solutions, features, site considerations, overall appeal, special problems relating to existing structure and include the budget (in no more than 150 words). Please note that additional information with respect to budget may be requested by the Canadian Home Builders' Association of B.C. to confirm the appropriate Category has been entered.
  • Twelve (12) 35mm colour horizontal slides of the following in triplicate showing:
    - up to 4 "before" and 8 "after" of exterior and interior views
    (clearly labelled "before" and "after").
  • One (1) each of 5"x7" (before) and 8"x12" (after) glossy colour photo prints.
  • Twelve (12) collated sets of floor plan and site plan (clearly labelled "before" and "after") on 8 1/2"x11" paper.
*Up to 2 companies will be recognized. Unless otherwise requested on the entry form, these awards will be presented to the Renovator and Architect/Designer.

13. Best Kitchen (Renovation)

Criteria
Entry will be judged on careful and innovative detailing, functionality and utility of floor plan, special and unique design, and creative use of space.

Requirements
  • Entry Form.
  • Marketing Statement/Project Description - Should describe the kitchen and how it meets the criteria for this category (in no more than 150 words).
  • Six (6) 35mm colour slides of the following in triplicate:
    - 2 "before";
    - 4 "after", including:
         - 1 of kitchen eating area;
         - 1 of service area;
         - 2 slides of your choice. (clearly labelled "before" and "after").
  • One (1) 8"x10" glossy colour photo print.
  • Twelve (12) collated sets of kitchen layout (clearly labelled "before" and "after") on 8 1/2"x11" paper.
*Up to 2 companies will be recognized. Unless otherwise requested on the entry form, this award will be presented to the Renovator and Architect/Designer.

14. Best Master Suite (Renovation)

Criteria
Entry will be judged on careful and innovative detailing, functionality of floor plan, special and unique design, creative use of space, and comfortable atmosphere.

Requirements
  • Entry Form.
  • Marketing Statement/Project Description - Should describe the master suite and how it meets the criteria for this category (in no more than 150 words).
  • Six (6) 35mm colour horizontal slides of the following in triplicate:
    - at least 1 "before" slide;
    - 5 "after" including:
         - 1 master suite (bedroom);
         - 1 master bath;
         - 3 slides of your choice. (clearly labelled "before" and "after".)
  • One (1) each of 5"x7" (before) and 8"x10" (after) glossy colour photo prints.
  • Twelve (12) collated sets of master suite floor plan (clearly labelled "before" and "after") on 8 1/2"x11" paper.
*Up to 2 companies will be recognized. Unless otherwise requested on the entry form, this award will be presented to the Renovator and Architect/Designer.
